yes, that is how i feel at the moment. We just finished filming the plant care video to go with the book we are writing, ‘Successful Succulent Growing’. Ours friends, Paul and Melanie came down from Eugene to shoot the video recording. I felt good about Paul doing the project. I’ve seen some of his work and i was impressed. Having Melanie around the house is great, it is so nice and comfortable to share time with her. She is also great to be around when i need encouragement. We did almost five hours of video footage and it felt pretty good seeing what we got. It is incredible how much material there is to talk about around succulent care.

So now that we are done with that we will keep doing our normal glazing, firing, repotting and collecting plants for the upcoming show in Seattle, two more weeks and it’s showtime!

I can’t wait to be all setup and ready to start.

my first blog, yikes!

i have been eagerly awaiting the rebuilding of our website and thanks to rosa, bohdi and david, it is finally here. unfortunately, our biggest show of the year, the nw flower and garden show, is just about here too, so things are a bit frantic as we get ready.

we are going to have a 10×30 booth space and 2 friends (mel and buffy) to help us during the show, which is going to be great, but getting set up is still a bit of a nightmare. we will get there on sunday before the show to start setting up. this year in addition to our booth, we are setting up a container display garden on the skybridge at the seattle convention center, featuring our plants and pots and the art work of a couple of friends of ours, rebecca bushner, a painter (www.rebeccabushner.com) and shane schaffer, a stainless steel metal scupltor. part of the deal about doing the display garden is that the exhibits are going to be professional photographed during the show and i will post pictures when we get them.

we have been making a lot of pottery for this show, and pushing my limits in terms of pot size, as we wanted to show off some of our bigger plants (think 5 gallon bucket size). thankfully, i just got a very helpful lesson in throwing big pots from the legendary eugene potter ‘t’, and i am now throwing 5 gallon planters.

it is still a bit of a struggle managing up to 15 pounds of clay on the wheel (most pots i have thrown previous were under 8 pounds), but with rosa to help guide the eventual shape, i think they turned out very well. sorry no pics yet, they are still awaiting glazing.

this winter has been colder and wetter than usual and we are actually heating the greenhouse at night for the first time in 6 years. the plants that can not tolerate low to mid 30’s are living with us in the house, although we give them a room of their own, the ‘green room’, with enough grow lights and fans to keep them warm and happy.

okay, writing all that was sort of fun and now that the first post is up, i hope other will follow regularly, but now it’s back to work for me…
